description: God's promise to give His people the desires of their heart (Psalm 37:4-6) is contingent upon delighting themselves in the Lord—that is, transforming their hearts (from carnal to spiritual) to be in alignment with His attributes. Because God is the author of desire (both physical and spiritual), He alone can legitimately satisfy these desires. God offers a wider spectrum of pleasure to His called-out ones, including eternal life and righteousness. While humans can never permanently satisfy their physical desires, yielding to God's purpose for their lives will bring permanent satisfaction, as Jesus promised the woman at the well—water which will permanently quench thirst as long as one remains connected to the source—God's Holy Spirit. Those whom God calls metaphorically undergo a "heart transplant" (Ezekiel 36:26) in which He replaces the stony, recalcitrant heart with a pliable one upon which He will permanently write His laws (Hebrews 8:10; 10:16, Jeremiah 31:33), enabling His called-out ones to receive a wider spectrum of desire, but also to align their desires with His magnificent purpose for them, permitting them to experience genuine pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11).
