sermonette: Nothing But Ashes

Bill Onisick
Given 09-Nov-19; Sermon #1515s; 17 minutes

Description: (hide)

Misplaced human reason and intellectualism can blind our eyes to the clarity of the Scriptures, putting us in danger of annihilation. The Apostle Paul, because of the 'intellectual' traditions of the Pharisees, was blind to the Scriptures until God literally struck him blind on the road to Damascus. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Carnal fear puts us into terror, but fear of God brings security. The cardinal lesson of the Feast of Tabernacles is that we are to fear God forever, exhibiting a species of fear which will completely displace our carnal fear. Like the Pharisees, we have all been guilty of the leaven of hypocrisy. We cannot expect God to accept us as we are but must repent of our sins and allow the fear of God to be a forever thing, lest we become nothing but ashes.
